Kyle Garrity QU 101 Professor Dave Herscovici 9/19/07 Development of your Identity Paper Who am I? What is my identity? My life has certainly framed my personality and identity I represent today, but how? I am not from another country, I did not move around from place to place, and I grew up in a very accepting community, so what parts of my life shaped my identity? I believe the two most significant factors are my friends and family. My parents have had a major impact on my identity. My father was born and raised in Scotland. He was raised in a somewhat poor family and never really received a good education. I think this background caused him to work very hard to support our family and get me a good education. He was determined to provide me great opportunities in life because he didn’t have that same chance. My father was strongly raised a catholic, although he wasn’t a very religious person. Once he moved to America, my father didn’t really practice a religion. My father is also very fond of the outdoors and doing outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, biking, skiing, etc. This interest has definitely rubbed off on me as these activities are among my favorite things to do. Another way this has affected me is because my father loves to go up to Canada because it is a really nice place for outdoor activities. My family goes to Canada at least once a
