2AbstractThe following information below analyzes three separate case studies that will focus on differentareas of law surrounding the case. 3Case Study OneChris, Matt, and Ian started a business selling aftershave lotion called Funny Face. Theycontracted with Novelty Now Inc. to design the product and to plan marketing and distributionstrategies. Chris directs Novelty Now Inc. to substitute an ingredient with PYR (a low-costchemical emulsifier)that is not FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved. DonaldMargolin used Funny Face’s product and it has turned his face permanently blue. Donald and hiscompany Donald Margolin Empire Inc. filed a suit with the state of New York against NoveltyNow Inc. alleging negligence and seeking medical cost and compensation for the damage to hisface and business reputation.Rules of JurisdictionJurisdictionis a court’s power to hear a case.A court requires several types ofjurisdictions before it trials a case. The three types of jurisdictions pertaining to this case isPersonal jurisdiction, Subject matter jurisdiction, and Minimum contacts.Personal jurisdictionisthe courts power over a person affecting rights of a person before the court. This will apply tothis case by answering the question of where the case will be held and who is liable? Theplaintiff (Donald Margolin) has filed a suit in the state of New York which gives the court’spower to exercise within New York and surrounding states. Chris, Matt, and Ian live inCalifornia and Novelty Now Inc. is based in Florida. Since the defendants live outside thiscourt’s bordersthe long arm statue would come into effect. Long-arm statue enables the courtsto serve defendants outside the state as long as there are minimum contacts within the state. Eachstate is different with minimum contacts requirements, but most states hold acts like committingas tort or doing business in the state enough.
