Nick Ruggieri Maslow 2/26/13 Satisfying Needs before Obtaining Knowledge The article I read on Maslow, which was composed by an attendant of Shippensburg, was a brief biography that went into breaking down Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. The author went into detail about each category, and how one must achieve one to continue to the other in order to achieve self actualization. For starters, I believe that Maslow’s hierarchy of needs has a huge impact in schools today. While many look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and relate it to psychology, I believe it is ever prevalent in today’s schools, especially those in lower class neighborhoods. If a student is not receiving the basic necessities he/she requires in life, it will be tough for him/her to accomplish anything in the classroom. Rather than focusing on obtaining knowledge, they may be thinking of where their next meal may be, or about the safety of their brothers and sisters.
