Nick King English 1100 Kevin Young M-W-F 1:00-1:15 My Writing Across The Curriculum Over the years I have developed a better understanding of the importance of literature and writing. When I was young I loved to read, and to be honest I believe it was the Goosebumps books that first struck my interest. From there on out I have always been a reader. I believe that reading is an important skill involved in writing. Bestselling author Stephen King once said, “If you don’t have the time to read, then you don’t have the tools to write.” Unfortunately, due to President Bush’s great idea of “No Child Left Behind” most of my education prior to college was based on passing a test, and not really learning to gain knowledge. It’s sad that’s what our education has been reduced to, but what can you do? In elementary school I believe the first type of writing that I was taught was basically telling a story or making up a story of my own. It wasn’t until about junior high when I first learned to write opinion or cause and effect papers. I
