Class, A few things come to mind when we talk about economic factors affecting national security. The United States has always led with a power-based leadership (Nanto, 2017). Having the largest and most reliable military and backing it up with the largest economy in the world was how the United States implemented national security. Each one of these feed off of each other. The military needs the economy to fund them and the economy needs the military to protect its ideology and assets. America at one time believed that they could be the bully of the world, mostly because we had the best weapons, can stay at war longer, and could outlast everybody else. Sort of the last man standing concept. In the last 30 years or so the world has changed and these ideas don’t always work. National security has gotten more complex. The ideas of economics and national security can be broken down into three ideas. The first is the economy as the source of funds, materiel, and personnel for the military. The second is the economy as a provider of economic security and
