Jesse Cibella Content Analysis Minute on Education Section 08 What: The author Thomas Babington Macaulay is writing this piece in India to try to persuade people to keep English as the primary language taught in India. He is writing this to the entire Indian population. Apparently this was written at a point when India was wondering if they should begin to teach Arabic or Sanskrit instead of English in all of the schools. Even though he has no knowledge in the other two languages he can say that all of the best Arabic and Sanskrit works have been translated into English, this is why he believes that English should be the primary language taught in the schools in India. By providing this evidence I think that he makes a good point not that the languages are useless but rather English can be applied to more situations and is more useful than that of Arabic and Sanskrit.
