Myka Glover Mrs. Martin AP English Lit & Comp 17 January 2021 Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night. In modern poetry, the content is often so focused that the reader, and occasionally the author, get lost in describing it through words and diction. These compositional portions of poetry are beginning to oversaturate poetry and overshadow a very valuable and essential characteristic of this art form: structure. In “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” By Dylan Thomas, the structure accurately breaks up the poem into three-line stanzas and strategically places repeated phrases to highlight the necessity of living life to its fullest especially when you nearing the end of it. The first example of the three-line stanza expressing meaning is in the very first stanza as it reads, “Old age should burn and rave at close of day” (line 2 Thomas). This quote exemplifies the idea that you should continue to live up until your last day on earth, take advantage of what there is before it’s gone.
