ANABOLIC STEROIDS INATHLETES AND NON-ANTHLETESEXS 430 RESEARCH METHODSMay 7, 2019
1At the beginning of the 19thcentury, bodybuilding was an unspecified name for “iron”men lifting heavy weights. Bodybuilding standards are higher today than in the past. Due toextensive usage of performance- enhancing drugs during the years of 1990’s to 2000, these yearsare known as the “Steroid Era,”. However, at the end of 20thCentury body building became morepopular, interesting and strength beneficial as well. Body building involves intensive physicalexercises in order to enlarge and strengthen the muscles of the body. Bodybuilders are known tohaving a “perfect” physical physique. For example, Shawn Rhoden also known as Mr. Olympia,Phil Heath and the sport’s greatest Arnold Schwarzenegger are the top bodybuilders today; areassociated with the popular term known as “Juice”.The term “Juice” is the colloquial term forAnabolic Steroids. Anabolic Steroids copy the effect of the male hormone, testosterone (SAHealth). Steroids can be swallowed or injected into a specific muscle area, they are used to buildmuscle, endurance, and strength. While the late 20thcentury was considered the steroid era, todaysteroids are used by both non-athletes and athletes. Non-athletes’ steroid users include males andfemales, who use the drug only for physical enhancement. What are Steroids?
2Anabolic steroids are a man-made substance related to male sex hormone.Bodybuildersand non-athletes often use anabolic steroids to build muscles and improve athletic performance.Using anabolic steroids to build muscle or for performance enhancement is not legal nor safe.Abuse of anabolic steroids has been linked with many health problems. Anabolic steroidsbecame unlawful in February 27, 1991, known as the Steroid Control Act of 1990. (1) This Actwas proposed and ordered to stop the illicit dealing of steroids. Prior to this proposed Act,steroids were lawful. It was first presented in Germany, in 1935, and was utilized medically totreat depression (2). Steroids began to change its role in the 1954 Olympics, when Russianpowerlifters started to take steroids to boost their performance. Besides making muscle larger, anabolic steroids may help one recoup from a hard exercise rapidly by decreasing the amount ofmuscle harm amid the session. This why the use of anabolic steroids is known as Performance-Enhancing drugs or PEDS.According to Live Science, anabolic steroids are developed from the normally createdhormone, testosterone. “When legally prescribed, they are an option for patients who produceabnormally low levels of testosterone or who suffer from body-wasting diseases such as canceror AIDS. When used by athletes, the goal is to speed up the body's natural muscle-buildingprocess.”(3) Hence, while researching where the name started from, the center is the anabolicpiece of the steroid, which is the control to permit development of muscle tissues and growth.
3The injection of the steroid results in the androgenic impact, which refers to any of male
