July 31, 2006 The Burden of Man, Or Why I Am a Spiteful Person Once when I was eight years old, I wanted to stay up until midnight to watch The Lion King . My mom told me I wasn’t allowed, and I said that it wasn’t fair. She told me “Well life isn’t fair.” Well, she was right, life isn’t fair, and one of the reasons why life isn’t fair is because of double standards. A double standard is an action that is acceptable for one group of people, and not another. The most prominent double standard is between men and women. These are the kinds of things that make men and women so bitter and spiteful towards each other. Men and women have been going at each other’s throats for years, arguing over who’s got it better. Well, women have it better when it comes to double standards in society, it’s true. Don’t believe me? Keep reading. Men definitely received the short end of the stick in the double standards department. Given, we do have some advantages, such as sleeping with multiple partners.
