Tamar Godel TUID911252355 English 1002 Fall Semester Professor Joshua Isard Human nature is to argue. Be it for a cause just or unjust, people will persist in arguing for what they feel is right, often without all of the information. When the ruling power sets forth regulations and laws, they are intended for the good of the citizens. However, often the people don’t realized that these laws are to their benefit, and will argue. Most often, this opposition takes the form of written or verbal denouncing. Sometimes it is a flag burning. Sometimes a speech. Sometimes an essay, or book, or editorial. Sometimes it is just door-to-door flyers and handouts (“Learning Activity”). This will often have the unfortunate effect of encouraging others to contest the same regulations, and the movement will snowball until there is a huge opposition to the law. Throughout all this, the people do not know how the government plans to implement the law, how it will affect them, or most importantly, why the government has chosen this as the best course of action. Thus, the easiest way for a government to keep its nation safe is to compromise its people’s free speech. Initially this will be met with resistance, but eventually (and with the right propaganda from the government) the people will no longer protest this infringement upon their right to speak freely.
