Tamar Godel 12/2/07 Dance in Human Society Professor Coward-Gilmore On Wednesday, October 24 th , Temple University choirs put on a concert in Mitten Hall. The concert was a culmination of the first half-semester of the choral department, and included three choirs – University Chorale, University Chamber Choir and University Singers. Mitten Hall is an interesting choice of a concert venue because of all of Temple’s concert halls and auditoriums, this one does not have built in chairs, as it was originally built as a dance hall. It also does not have a distinct stage on which to put risers, but instead there are a few steps at one end of the hall that the choirs stood on. The venue is really beautiful, though, with polished stone floors and raised wings. I had an interesting perspective on this concert, as I am a member of University Chorale, and participated in one section of the concert. I have a more thorough knowledge of the extensive background preparation required to attain the level of skill displayed at the concert. Suffice it to say that many, many grueling hours were put into learning the material, rehearsing
