I chose to study dance in musical theater as my outside dance class. I chose this form in particular because I have always been very interested in musical theater in all forms, and the dance in particular attracted me because I have never quite been able to master it. I took my classes at the Walnut Street Theatre (a gift from my grandmother), and it was set up very similarly to most dance classes. We were barefoot, in a smallish studio with a wooden floor. No special touches were added to make it ready for this particular type of dance, other than tape guides on the floor for our choreography. The class began with typical warm ups, starting with stretches and moving on to some isolations. We then began our work. The biggest difference between this and another dance class is that we first learned to sing the song we danced to, then learned the dance, then combined the two.
