Victor Kalivas BIO 103 - Lessem Lecture Presentation Response: Funding of Gene Research -1 Being a potential investor, the most important part to pay attention to is: Can this project make money? We were presented with four different genes, an aggression/anxiety gene, maturity gene, happy/depression gene, and an obesity gene. The one that got my vote was the one that to me seemed most useful, and therefore, most valuable and able to make money and peak interest. To me this would be either the aggression/anxiety gene, mostly because of what the others lacked. I’ll start with the maturity gene. It was marketed by the presenters to be something more of a gene that psychologically matures a human being, which would be desired because it would make people more responsible, supposedly curing addictions of all kinds, and cause people to live a more productive lifestyle. In reality, we have no reason to believe this to be true with the research presented. We were told that what was observed in the fruit fly was physical maturation caused by the gene, which could be sped
