ASSESSMENT 2 Assessment Models Considering the theory of Macdonald and Joughin assessment within higher education there is a “complex issues” (Liberty, 2018). It goes on to say that assessment is considered to be something that is experienced by an individual within an institution of higher education, which is not always in a positive or good way. The Macdonald and Joughin model of assessment goes on to makes sense of the milieu, which enable us to identify the need for intervention and also identify how to make need for institutional good quality at the student, department at the institutional levels (Liberty, 2018). Their model consists of four principal levels, which is: Level 1-What is assessment: The reason assessment really happens Level 2- To Support the assessment practice: which Includes the elements of staff development, departmental culture, program design, innovation and improvement Level 3- Symbolizes the institutional context of assessment Level 4- Stand for the overall context of the institution The Macdonald and Joughin model involve four functions which spans all levels of the model (Liberty, 2018): Quality assurance Leadership Management Quality enhancement Considering the Liberty model of assessment which is rooted centrally within the institution’s mission and it states: “To develop Christ-centered men and women with the values,
ASSESSMENT 3 knowledge, and skills essential to impact the world.” Liberty’s assessment model has five key components (Liberty, 2018): Purpose and goals Data collection Data analysis Action plan Implementation The three R’s of faculty included in assessment Banta and Palomba (2014) stated that good quality student assessment could not happen without faculty.
