I think if Sam from In Country were to make an exhibition of objects about the Vietnam war, it would be things that would describe the way that she came to really understand and learn about the war through her own experiences, rather than the information she could find in history books or television. Therefore, the three objects I think Sam would use would be the Bruce Springsteen “Born in the U.S.A. album, the Vietcong flag that Emmett had flown from the clock tower, and her father’s diary. 1. “Born in the U.S.A.” This album is particularly special to Sam. As a girl who relies heavily on pop-culture to shape her thoughts about society, this song is a major part of her memory of Vietnam. While seemingly patriotic upon first look, closer examination shows that this song was about the way that soldiers were sent off to Vietnam as if they were dispensable. “Got in a little hometown jam so they put a riddle in my hand/ Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man.” I think Sam connects this song to her own belief

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
