Starting from my 1stbirthday, I've lived in Waldorf Maryland in atownhouse then to a regular house. As a little girl, I enjoyed drawing, swimming andreading. A few years later, I had my baby brother, Nathan at University of MarylandCharles Regional Medical Center on July 16th. I'm now 15 years old and the oldestchild in my house. My immediate family consists of my Mom, Dad, baby brother andmy Australian shepherd, Cap'n. During my free time, I enjoy writing, learning new anduseful skills, doing my adult coloring books, reading and making things. I'm enrolled asa freshman at Westlake High School and I'm on stage crew and this spring, trying outfor tennis.Today, I'm a freshman at Westlake after coming from Mattawoman MiddleSchool. I'm striving to graduate early and go on to art school/college. There are manycareers I find interesting, like a forensic detective or a writer, but I don't have a finalcareer I want for the rest of my life. With my art and writing talents, I'd like a job where Ican be creative and be able to further my education. Since, I'm now almost 16, myparents have been giving me more freedom than I had when I was a middle schooler.Mom lets me go out more and lets me stay out later with my friends. Dad lets me walkaround by myself when he takes me out somewhere I'm familiar with.
I chose Travel as my theme based on my trips to other states and other placesI've always wanted to see. When I retire, I want to travel the world and explore andexperience it myself. In fact, this summer my Dad and I are taking a road trip acrossthe country to states I want to visit. My list consists of New York City, New Orleans,Hollywood, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Texas and New Jersey. All my poems are aboutplaces or the state itself in and out of the US I have visited and want to visit.Basho MatsuoAn old silent pond...A frog jumps into the pond,Splash! Silence againBasho Matsuos poem reminds me of an old Louisianan folklore story I heardwhen I was little. A beast known as the Rougarou in the south part of thestate is also called "Loup Garou." He's described as a werewolf-like creatureand is said to prowl swamps sound Acadiana and the Greater New Orleans. The story was mostly told to inspire fear and obedience. Although humansrefrain from telling each other about it out of fear of being killed. The poemmakes me think of Louisiana's ghost stories, legends and their creepy swampsand creatures that live there.
