CHEM 101: General Chemistry Professor: Jeff Watson, HU230A, x5929 ( Text: Chemistry , 5 th edition, McMurry and Fay. Lecture: MWF, 9:00-9:50, Hughes 130 Office Hours: Monday, 11am-noon, Friday, 10am-noon. I’m also very happy to make appointments. If my office door is open, please feel free to stop in. If my door is closed, please knock. If the office hours don’t work for you, please make an appointment. E- mail is a terrific way to get in touch with me when I’m not in my office! Goals of the Class : To understand and appreciate the scope of the science of chemistry To build problem-solving and scientific thinking skills To provide a strong foundation for further study in chemistry and other sciences Structure of the Class : There will be four in-class exams over the course of the semester as well as a final exam. Each in-class exam will include all material covered since the previous exam. The final exam will be comprehensive, covering the material from the entire class. All material covered in the lectures as well as any material from the pertinent sections of the textbook and any additional materials given out in class are fair game for the exams. A “study guide” that outlines important topics will be distributed prior to each exam to help you focus your study efforts. Weekly quizzes will be given on Friday at the beginning of the class period as shoiwn for
