Biology-Mrs. Gallagher  Sept. 13 th  2010 I.   Characteristics of Living Things (Life Function)   A. Nutrition- take in and process materials needed for energy, growth and  repair.  TWO TYPES:  1. Autotroph-“self feeders.” Make their own food. Some use it for energy  (photosynthesis). Some use energy from chemical reaction  (chemosynthesis).  2. Heterotroph-“eats other things” Take in preformed organic molecules.  a. Ingestion-take in food b. Digestion-large insoluble molecules   small soluble molecules c. Egestion-get rid of undigested food B. Respiration-release energy from food (organic compounds)  TWO TYPES:  1. Aerobic-requires 0 2   (animals, plants)  2. Anaerobic-does NOT require oxygen gas (yeast, bacteria)  C. Excretion- Eliminate the wastes that the cells make (carbon dioxide,  water, nitrogen wastes) D. As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
