Have you heard from Johannesburg? -The release of Nelson Mandela was viewed as the release of all black people in South Africa (had been held in prison for 28 years for trying to free black South Africans from apartheid) Freedom was to be seen as a human being Believed that there were people overseas who wouldn’t let the regime of apartheid continue UN: Universal Declaration of Human Rights: all mankind should be free, equal, and protected by law One of the few countries to abstain from voting on Equal Rights for all was S.
