Table of Contents I. Introduction a. Table of Contents……………………………………………………..….2 b. Introductory Essay - Back to the Basics…………………………………4 c. Self-Assessment………………………………………………………….8 II. Paper 1 ( Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson ) a. Artifact 1 – Exercise 2: Comparison Chart of Fussell and Szczesiul……11 This in-class exercise was one of the first that we did in WR150. It was very useful when I was constructing the arguments for my first paper. We broke down the opinions of each critic for various topics from the novel. I also had to add in my own thoughts, which helped me compare my arguments to Fussell’s and Szczesiul’s. b. Artifact 2 - Exercise 5: Peer Review for Paper 1………………………..13 Suzanna reviewed my paper. I always find it helpful to have a peer edit my paper because it’s nice to get other people’s opinions. Her main concern was my argument. She wanted me to expand on my argument more. c. Artifact 3 – Paper 1 Draft 1 Comments………………………………….16 This was the first feedback I received from my professor. It was helpful to see what he was looking for in my writing. The comments that Jason made were mainly about my argument and I realized how weak my writing was. It was eye opening to see how much I needed to grow in my writing. d. Final Draft – The Power of Relationship: An Introspective Look at George and Elizabeth Willard……………………………………………………21 III. Paper 2 ( In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway) a. Artifact 1 – Exercise 7: Identifying Problems and Articulating Questions for Paper 2………………………………………………………………..29 This exercise was similar to Exercise 2 for Paper 1. However, this was more focused on finding the focus of my paper by pinpointing problems in In Our Time or about In Our Time . It was a good guide to starting my paper. b. Artifact 2 – Exercise 9: Paper 2 Prospectus and Annotated Bibliography Comments………………………………………………………………..30 This was the first time I wrote an annotated bibliography before my actual paper. But Exercise 9 forced me to do research to find solid sources and writing a prospectus helped me lay out my ideas. It was a good way to link my argument to my sources to see if I could possibly integrate both to make my paper work. c. Artifact 3 – Paper 2 Draft 1 Comments………………………………….34 This shows progress from the first draft of my first paper. All of Jason’s comments mention that I have a good start or foundation to my argument; I just fail to take it further.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
