Course Description and OverviewThis course focuses on key global business environmentalfactorsandissuesthataffectfirmswithinternationaloperations. The main topics covered are: the development offirms with international operations, including small andmediumsizedenterprises(SMEs)andmultinationalenterprises (MNEs); national differences in the economic,political, social and legal environments; cultural differencesand their effects on international business; world trade andworld financial flows as well as exchange rate issues areanalyzed from a macro-economic perspective. Thus, studentslearn to understand how the political, economic and businessstrategies of international companies are interlinked. Thiscourse also discusses the role of international institutions,such as the WTO, IMF and World Bank; regional integration;and the impact of technology.International Business Environment2
Course ObjectivesSpecific course objectives for include:To introduce students to the nature of international business and theinternationalized firm.To analyze trends and changes in the current global businessenvironment and debate the impact of globalizationTo show how international business is affected by several differenttypes of environments (i.e. economic, political, social, cultural,financial, technological) in which it operates.To discuss the relevance of international institutions, governmentsand non-governmental organizations to international business.To analyze SMEs and multinational firms’ responses to threats andopportunities in the global business environment.To discuss the role of international institutions, such as the WTO, IMFand World Bank; regional integration; and the impact of technology.3
