MGMT 325 Professor Andre November 26, 2012 WSU Discussion Paper The Secret to the Success of Winona State University The main goal of any university is to shape their students into successful, real-world- ready adults with the knowledge and abilities to take care of themselves in life after college. By doing so, they also look to bring in more and more new students to shape and impart their wisdom to. Winona State University is very successful in these areas. This university continually sends their graduates out into the world ready for what they will face and able to create successful lives and careers after college. In doing so, they also have ever increasing enrollment due to their high success rates. There are many things that could affect these matters, but the main causes of success are the university’s leaders, teams and communication. Leaders of an organization are always a great influence on how successful the organization will be. Here at Winona State we have a multitude of leaders that affect our performance: WSU President Olson, professors, as well as the Student Senate and our fellow students to name a few (personal communication, November 19, 2012). With all of these different types of leaders, many different leadership styles and displays of power are at work on our campus. President Olson is an authentic leader. He shows positive emotion and, by doing so, raises campus morale, creates an atmosphere of trust and inspires hope for all those that are apart of our university (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2009). Our professors are generally authentic leaders for the same reasons, but also transformational leaders, due to the intellectual stimulation of their students, motivation and consideration, and behavioral leaders by leading us with their
