What is ABA?Nicole BelloCapella University October 25, 2020
1Introduction According to Cooper et al. (2007), applied behavior analysis or ABA, can be defined as, “the science in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied systematically toimprove socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for behavior change. In more simpler terms, ABA can be described as a way of applying behavioral principles to behavioral goals and carefully measuring the results. As a behavior analyst, the goal is to try to understand why people behave the way that they do and how you, as the professional can improve and change problem behaviors.Studies have indicated that applied behavior analysis research and practice has increased human performance and the quality of participants’ lives across a wide range of areas however, it is important to note that no problem has been solved completely (Cooper et al., 2007). Altogether, there are seven dimensions of ABA and all behavior interventions fall within the seven dimensions of ABA. These seven dimensions include; effective, technological, applied, conceptually systematic, analytic, and behavioral. Article 1: Using Token Reinforcement to Increase Walking for Adults With Intellectual DisabilitiesThe overall goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of token reinforcement. After closely analysing this article, I have determined that this article meets all of the criteria of the seven dimensions of ABA therefore, this article is considered to be behaviorally analytic.
