Classification of Amino Acids Essential and Non-Essential Essential amino acids are ones we cannot biosynthesize. They must be supplied in the diet. Non-essential amino acids are ones we can biosynthesize. How I keep them straight. Glucogenic and Ketogenic Glucogenic amino acids can be used as raw material for glucose biosynthesis. Ketogenic amino acids give rise to ketone bodies. Most amino acids are glucogenic.
