China Leads In Foreign Direct Investment (Retrieved on 5/6/13 from: - in-foreign-direct-investment/ ) For the first time since 2003, China has surpassed the United States as the world’s largest recipient of global foreign direct investment (FDI). During the first six months of the year, FDI flows to China totaled $59 billion, a slight decline from $61 billion in the first half of 2011. Meanwhile, FDI flowing to the U.S. reached $57.4 billion, a decline of 39.2 percent from a year earlier, according to the Global Investment Trends Monitor released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Although China re-claiming its leadership in FDI had as much to do with the fall off in FDI flows into the U.S. as it had to do with events in China, it nonetheless underscores China’s continued attractiveness as a destination for foreign investment. Although economic growth has declined to its current level of 7.5 to 8.0, percent due to a slowing rate of growth in infrastructure spending by the government and relatively restrictive monetary policies, the China economy is
