Anything that’s passed from one generation to the next 3. Affects how we think, how we act, what we own 4. Provides instructions on how to act in a situation 5. Fundamental basis for making decisions 6. Universal phenomena B. Ideal vs. Real Culture 1. Ideal Culture –we attempt to meet but rarely achieve this idea 2. Real Culture –actual day to day culture that we experience C. Components of Culture 1. Material Culture –artifacts of our culture, tangible things that make up our culture material culture is unique to all cultures one is not better assign meaning to tangible objects 2. Nonmaterial Culture –abstract creations of society Refers to society’s ideas and laws Value system Differ from each society D. Culture Shock In an unfamiliar situation and use own culture… II.
