EVR 1001L-0001 Fall 2019Easter Island: Carrying Capacity and Sustainability Lab ReportName: Adriana ColonDate: 11/3/19Materials and Methods:The purpose of this lab was to experience first-hand how and why Easter Island cannotsustain a big civilization. Easter Island is a discrete island in the southeastern part of the PacificOcean. There were tubes in the lab that were utilized to time travel to be able to collect thedata. A total of six time periods were studied during the experiment; 900 AD, 1200 AD, 1400 AD,1500 AD, 1600 AD, and 1800 AD. For each time period, the same two tasks were conducted. Aline transect was used to calculate the population of mulberry and palm trees on the island.Then, a surveyor’s wheel was used to 0.002 km2of the island that was being studied. In order tostudy and estimate the population, a drone was used so that there was no interaction with thecivilization. After each trial was finished, a total of 162 km2were studied.
