Finding Probabilities for Normal Random Variables You need to know the mean μ x and standard deviation σ x in order to determine the density curve. Draw a picture of the density curve. Label the x-axis. On the x-axis, find the interval or intervals in which you are interested. Shade the area under the curve corresponding to the intervals. Convert the probability statement in terms of X to a probability statement in terms of standard normal Z by finding z-statistics (or z-scores). Use Table Z or Minitab to find probability.
