Differentiate among various forms of comedy, including satire, comedy of character, farce, and parody. There are various forms of comedy that are used in storytelling and each form serves a distinct purpose. A parody is imitative work and is sometimes referred to as a spoof. This form of comedy uses the skeleton of an original work and adds its own comedic elements then exaggerate the flaws of the original work or in some cases exaggerate and trivialize the original work. A parody is basically a copycat of any original, but in a comedic style. There is also a satire form of comedy, which is different from a parody because it uses irony and in some cases exaggeration to expose vices and shortcomings of an entity, whether it be an individual or a complex and interdependent system like our society. Humor is almost never part of a satire comedy. Satire uses humor, ridicule, irony and exaggeration to make fun of or criticize a person’s lack of intelligence.
