Aspirin Solprin Mild-to- moderate pain, including fxed- dose combinaton with codeine Fever Rheumatc fever Acute migraine Rheumatoid arthrits, seek specialist advice Kawasaki disease, seek specialist advice Analgesic, anti- inflammatory , antipyretic , oral 300– 900 mg every 4–6 hours when necessary. Children: Rheumatic fever (arthritis or severe arthralgia) , oral, initally 12.5–15 mg/kg every 6 hours; increase if needed to 20– 25 mg/kg every 6 hours; maintenance, 12.5–15 mg/kg every 6 hours. Stop treatment when symptom free for 1–2 weeks. nausea, dyspepsia, vomitng, GI ulceraton or bleeding, asymptomatc blood loss, increased bleeding tme, headache, dizziness, tnnitus (common with high doses). Precautons: Allergic reacton to aspirin or other NSAID— contraindicated. Heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension— may be exacerbated by sodium and fuid retenton caused by aspirin-induced reducton in glomerular fltraton rate and renal blood fow. Asthma—risk of bronchospasm is increased in patents with aspirin- precipitated asthma. Gout—avoid analgesic doses of aspirin during an acute atack as plasma urate concentraton may change. G6PD defciency— doses of up to 1 g daily are tolerated in most people. History of peptc Pregnancy: Increased rate of miscarriage. Risk appears highest when taken around the tme of concepton. When given during the later part of pregnancy, NSAIDs may delay labour and birth. Breasteeding : Avoid due to theoretcal risk of Reye’s syndrome; ibuprofen is preferred, however, single doses of aspirin can be taken. Taking with or afer food may reduce stomach upset. If you develop swollen ankles, difculty in breathing, black stools or vomit that looks like cofee grounds, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor without delay.
