Smoke Free St . Louis There are over four thousand chemical compounds in secondhand smoke, two hundred of which are known to be poisonous (Martin) . The effects of second hand smoke can be devastating and something must be done to change that . In St . Louis there are no laws preventing smoking in public places; however, there are many benefits that come with smoke- free laws . Those benefits include better business which brings in more revenue and it a healthier atmosphere for the customers . Enforcing smoke-free laws on St . Louis will show very beneficial results right away as well as in the long run . Smoking is legal, and it produces tax money for the government, but it is very harmful to both smokers and the people around them . Everyday people go into bars and restaurants and are surrounded by secondhand smoke . Breathing secondhand smoke can cause many different forms of cancer in the human body as well as various forms of heart disease (Secondhand Smoke Fact Sheet) . Passive smoking is very harmful to both the employees and the customers whether they realize it or not . Employees have to deal with it every day and have a higher risk or getting sick
