Williams “higher law” Seward – argues that slavery is wrong by a “higher law” 10. John C. Calhoun – bitch from South Carolina. South Carolina was such a BITCH back in the mid 1800’s. 11. Henry Clay – the MANNN 12. Compromise of 1850 – created by Henry mothafuckin Clay. California is admitted as a free state. NM and UT will be decided by popular sovereignty. Slave trade is illegal in DC but NOT actual slavery, and a strong fugitive slave act is passed, and Texas cedes land to New Mexico for 10 million. 13. Fugitive Slave Act – required northerners to aid in capture of escaped slaves. Severely angered northerners. Why? Because heavy fines and jail terms awaited those who helped slaves, northerners were forced into aiding in capture, and there were now slave-catchers in the North.
