This saponification reaction was observed and the properties of thesoap produced were examined. This soap was used in a process of acidification to isolate amixture of fatty acids. Furthermore, this laboratory report helped us gain an understanding of thecleansing action of soaps and detergents in hard and soft water.Chemical ResponsibilityAs always in a chemistry lab, one must wear safety goggles as a precaution to protect theeyes from accidents that could occur. There are hazards involving certain liquids in thisexperiment, such as Hydrochloric acid, which should be washed off immediately if they comeinto contact with one’s skin. The hazardous liquids must be discarded into hazardous wastebottle. The other chemicals used should also be used with caution. Lastly, all broken glass shouldbe discarded into the broken glass box located in the lab.Answers to Post Lab Questions1. This salt is soluble in water. See attachment for structure.
