TESOL End of the term assignment (after phase 8) 1. “It is important to evaluate the success and effectiveness of your courses so that you could make improvements on an on-going basis”. Justify the statement with reference to Kirkpatrick’s Model. You need to mention relevant activities to assess each stage. (500 words) Evaluation provides a systematic method to study a program, practice, intervention, or initiative to understand how well it achieves its goals. Evaluations help determine what works well and what could be improved in a program or initiative. Evaluation helps us to know whether the instructional objectives have been achieved or not. As such evaluation helps planning of better strategies for education. A sound programme of evaluation clarifies the aims of education and it helps us to know whether aims and objectives are attainable or not. Evaluation is being used to measure student progress, reform education systems, and enhance accountability for outcomes. School administrators and teachers alike are conducting evaluations of their own to improve school performance and foster creative spaces for learning. The Kirkpatrick Model of Evaluation, first developed by Donald Kirkpatrick in 1959, is the most popular model for evaluating the effectiveness of a training program. The model includes four levels of evaluation, and as such, is sometimes referred to as 'Kirkpatrick's levels" or the "four levels." A new SoftwareTraining Programme for its agents was conducted in a well known Call Centre in which various activities were conducted to assess each stage of Kirkpatrick’s model as follows :- Reaction :- A large technical support call center rolled out new screen sharing software for agents to use with the customers. They're providing training to teach the agents how to use the new software. A trainer hosted a one-hour webinar that teaches the agents when to use screen sharing, how to initiate a screen sharing session, and how to explain the legal disclaimers. Group was splitted into breakout sessions at the end to practice. At the conclusion of the experience, participants are given an online survey and asked to rate, on a scale of 1 to 5, how relevant they found the training to their jobs, how engaging they found the training, and how satisfied they are with what they learned. There's also a question or two about whether they would recommend the training to a colleague and whether they're confident that they can use screen sharing on calls with live customers. Learning:- A detailed information about the software such as its pros and cons was shared with all the agents. After two days an activity of MCQ’s were conducted for the agents to assess the learning done by them with the above mentioned training. Also a pre test was conducted before the training which helped us understand and compare the effectiveness of training.
