Chap#5 It determines the route from the source to the destination and also manages the traffic problems such as switching, routing and controls the congestion of data packets. The main role of the network layer is to move the packets from sending host to the receiving host. Two approaches to structuring network control plane: -> per-router control (traditional) -> logically centralized control (software defined networking) Per-router control plane: Individual routing algorithm comonents in each and every router interact wtih each other in control plane to compute forwarding tables. Logically centralized control plane: A distinct (typically remote) controller interacts with local control agents (CAs) in routers to compute forwarding tables. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ Routing Protocol -> set of rules that help routers to share data, routing table -> static and dynamic A routing protocolspecifies how routers communicate with each other to distribute information that enables them to select routes bewtween any two nodes of the computer network. two type of routing protocols -> intra domain -> how different autonomous system connect together -> like two cites distance vector link state (OSPF)
