The Leadership Experience Exam 2 Review MGT 4387 The Personal Side of Leadership Chapter 5 ~ Leadership Mind and Heart Definitions : 1. Mental modes- Theories people hold about specific systems in the world and their expected behavior. 2. System thinking- The ability to see the synergy of the whole rather than just the separate elements of a system and to learn to reinforce or change whole system patterns. 3. Emotional Intelligence- A person’s abilities to perceive, identify, understand, and successfully manage emotions in self and others. What are the four critical areas to develop a leader’s mind. Describe. o Independent Thinking- means questioning assumptions and events according to one’s own beliefs, ideas and thinking, rather than pre- established rules or categories defined by other. o Open- mindedness- to break out of the mental boxes, the categorized thinking patterns we have been condition to accept as correct.
