Know definitions of proactive & reactive. * Know about change projects and why they fail. * TQM, Six Sigma & Reengineering – what are they and why do firms use them? * Read and understand the section on “Containing Costs”. * Understand implications of downsizing, outsourcing, offshoring and employee leasing. * Read and understand the section regarding age distribution of employees and changing demographics. * Understand the rights that employees have (read “Employee Rights” section) Chapter 2 * Know the steps in the strategic planning process. * Read the section on Strategic Planning and Human Resources – know and understand the difference between strategic planning, HR planning, and Strategic HRM.
