Differences Between Public Administration and Private Management 2 Differences Between Public Administration and Private Management Introduction Today two forms of management exist, the private sector and the public sector. While the two share some similarities in their foundations their overall operations are much different from each other and for that reason explain the difference in operations. To ask whether the values of the private sector differ from the objectives of the public sector is to ask a large question and a normative question, a question surrounded by a great deal of controversy (Murray, 2005). Public administration and private management could be considered interchangeable with public sector and private sector as their definitions pertain to each other. Private management involves managing the narrower needs of an individual or group, while private sector serves the part of the national economy that is not under direct control by the government. Private management an aspect of the private sector focuses on the individual needs of the organization and has no interference or impact from the government. In contrast, public administration is the implementation of government policies and the responsibility of determining such programs and policies for the government and its people, while public sector is the part of an economy that is controlled by the government.
