Unformatted text preview: Art 101 2/14/08 Photography, Film, and Video Photography → One of the first artistic media available to women. • Daguerre – silver coated tin plate and be developed after a long time of exposure. • O’Sullivan – one of the first war correspondents that took the camera out into the battle field. • Steiglitz- • Weston – straight forward, only made contact printing, 8x11 pictures. Could see the relevance in landscape and people. • Lange – most famous series were pictures of the dustbowl • Arbus – one of the first to pioneer the psychology of photography. • Avedon – set out to document the American West. Would find people and adopt the same body language and took pictures of regular hard working class people. • Talbot – developed photogenic drawing, did the negative/positive process • Cameron – one of the first great photographers, made photography an art form • Hockney- • Adams – made the zone system, measuring the lights and darks of the photo. • Bourke-White – was in the right place at the right time, that showed something that had not really been talked about. • Owens – Suburbia, one of the best documentations of suburban areas and took pictures of • Sherman – stereotyped roles from movies. Self portraits • Evans – very conscious about what his picture was capturing, looked at them like a collage. Film • Viking Eggeling – • Iris short - • Fritz Lang - • D.W. Griffith - • Sergei Eisenstein – film montage and making the characters individuals, sound is well edited with the film, making it more intense and dramatized.
