1.1. Summary of the businessSingtel, also known as Singapore Telecommunications limited, is one of four majortelecommunications companies operating in the country. They have managed to command apresence in 21 countries together with their associates namely: Optus, Airtel, AIS, Globe andTelkomsel. Being the largest mobile network operator in Singapore, Singtel, besidestelecomcommunications services, they provide a diverse range of digital securities forinstance; cloud, cyber security and digital advertising to enterprises as well as entertainmentand mobile financial services to millions of consumers. Singtel has over 4.1 millionsubscribers and is also the second-largest company by market capitalisation listed on theSingapore Exchange. Singtel aims at continuing R&D in innovation in order to provide next-generation technologies to further enhance their customer experiences and to maintain asustainable digital future. 1.2. Chairman’s messageDespite having faced a challenging year with intensified competition within the business, pricewar with Airtel India, and the pandemic, Singtel has managed to make strides in 5G bysubmitting its winning bid to operate a 5G network, enhanced its mobile services, and deepenedits cyber securities capabilities by launching Trustwave’s Fusion platform that provides real-time visibility of cyber threats and also helps with responses. Furthermore, despite theheightened competition, Simon Israel, the chairman of Singtel has claimed that the recent 5Glicense win will allow the company to bolster their network leadership in Singapore whichwould essentially help create new revenue and growth opportunities as per the Singtel annualreport 2020.Additionally, Singtel has been working towards steering the business through the impact ofCovid-19 by strategizing contingency plans to deal with the pandemic and their digitalizedaspects have aided the business in adapting to the new circumstances and pivot to a newnormal. Singtel has even raised S$2 million for vulnerable groups impacted by Covid-19, andhas also provided a range of free services to the societies coping with the pressures of stayingat home.
