Political Culture Those deep seated beliefs of a particular people; core values; Myth Like Equality -everyone is equal and has self worth Individualism - believe in self efficiency or personal gain Liberty – You are free to think and act as you choose. Diversity – we are a diverse culture and as a source of strength in the United States. Self Government – that the people are the ultimate source of authority and government action is only legitimate to help the people. Unity – one nation or one people. Have a common language as Americans: Classical Liberalism (Lockean) Believes that the individual is the unit of analysis (any government action is only legitimate that makes sense to the individual. Self interested – do things for our own best interest Rational – think things through, and analyze Equal – talked about earlier Individual rights Consumerism – more interested about stuff vs. democracy Ignorant! About American politics.
