Benitez 1 Expectations Never Achieved The Misanthrope was an interesting play to see on stage. As I was part of the group that did this play, I had certain expectations that I felt that were not met. It was hard to connect to this play from the start. The set did not allow for someone to create some sort of connection. It was a very formal almost office type setting which put me slightly off, because one again I had certain things in my mind that did not come to the play. The acting however was what allowed to me connect to the story because it was superb. I was put off with the garbage and the whole food thing going on; if it was out there Ivo Van Hove wanted, well he definitely got his point across. It is personally not my style but I respect him fully for going for what he wants, and I am intrigued to see the other plays he will direct. Since I did already come in mind what I wanted to see, it didn’t allow me to be open to what was happening on the stage, and at times I almost felt like
