Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold was almost a great hero, but turned out a terrible villain. He accrued numerous battle scars from his services as general for the Continental Army during the War for Independence and even ended up with one leg shorter than the other. He fought at the Battles of Fort Ticonderoga, Quebec, Valcour Island, Lake Champlain, Danbury, Ridgefield, and even played an imperative role at the momentous Battle of Saratoga (Who Served Here).
