Anthony Polzine 1/9/2007 BUAD 422-005 Concept Check 1. The difference between efficiency and effectiveness is that being efficient is getting your work done with as little effort, expense, or waste. Effectiveness is more of finishing a task that helps fulfill your goals. 2. The four management functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. 3. The main differences in the responsibilities of top managers versus middle managers is that top managers are the people who create positive organizational culture through words and actions, monitoring the company’s business environment. The middle managers are responsible for planning and allocating resources, coordinating and linking groups and departments, monitoring and managing the performance of sub units and managers and implementing the changes or strategies generated by top managers. 4. The qualities that distinguish a first line manager from a team leader is that the first line manager can hire and fire people, make job assignments and control
