Bacterial infections Chlamydia Infection Caused by Chlamydia trachomatis : -Bacterial microorganism that grows in body cells o may also cause preventable blindness most damaging and common of all stds (3-5 mil/yr) sexually active teenagers = more o Y W oral contraceptives = high risk o Douching = high risk Can me transmitted through sex or touching of body parts like genitals to eyes SYMPTOMS Female o Inflammation of urethral tube or an infection of cervix = few or no symptoms o Mild irritation or itching in genital tissues o Burning during urination o Slight vaginal discharge o Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) o Bacteria that cause Chlamydia or gonorrhea spread from the cervix upward infecting the lining of the Uterus Fallopian tubes Ovaries Other adjacent abdominal structures o Disrupted menstrual periods o Chronic pelvic pain o Lover back pain o Fever o Nausea o Vomiting o Headache o Scars on fallopian tubes can leave women sterile Males o Epididymitis
