SEXAUL STYLES 3 styles of sex – can limit to one or use of all three inward on arousal o partner engagement;mutual pleasuring and affection; romantic o role play sex as a stage kissing and touching o tribadism : rubbing ones genitals against anothers body or genitals o manual stim of female genitals o manual stim of male genitals oral-genital stimulation o cunnilingus = oral stimulation of the vulval o f ellatio= oral stimulation of the penis anal stimulation o anilingus = oral stimulation of the anus Specific sexual difficulties o Desire-phase difficulties Hypoactive sexual desire= lack of interest in sexual activitiy More common in women Can be in certain circumstances, or lifelong (rare) Can be related to homosexuality o Dissatisfaction with frequency of sexual acitivity Amount, type, timing of sex o Sexual aversion disorder Extreme and irrational fear of sexual activity Symptoms = sweating, increased heart rate, dizziness, nausea, trembling and diarrhea Excitement – phase o Female sexual arousal disorder Woman cant reach or maintain lubrication/swelling Can be biological factors, or feelings of apathy, anger or fear. o Male erectile dysfunction = repeated lack of erection hard enough for p/v sex

Impotence means “without power” Over a period of 6-12 months Acquired – previously had erections with his partner(s) (much more common) Lifelong – never been able to maintain penetration May be organic or psychologically induced –fatigue, stress, alcohol, drugs, attending day long porno film festivals Orgasm –phase difficulties o Female orgasmic disorder Anorgasmia = absence of orgasm Usually Unmarried, younger, less education If a woman can O in some way other than coitus, probably not a problem o Male orgasmic disorder The inability of a man to orgasm during sexual activity **your book says ejaculate – the word orgasm is better** Most men are not able to O thru masturbation or Px performing manual or oral stim Uncommon only 8% of men experience it o Premature Ejaculation A man ejaculates too fast for his own or his Px’s enjoyment See lecture notes! Faking Orgasms Can lead to a vicious cycle- Px’s doesn’t know what works and what doesn’t Dysparenuia (dis-puh-roo-nee-uh) Pain/discomfort during intercourse More common in women Dyspareunia in men o Foreskin too tight, smegma, peyronie’s disease (see page 447 for definition) Dyspareunia in women o At least 60% experience this in their lives

o Can be caused by psychological factors o Two different areas can experience pain- know causes of each type – p. 447-448 @ entrance or vagina walls Deep pain Vaginismus o Strong, involuntary contractions of the muscles in the outer third of the vagina o Can be sexually responsive, and even O, with other stimulation. Can be a response to chronic painful intercourse, religious taboos
