In 1979, Larry and Bobbie bought a small cake business that was functioned by only themselves. After some time, they moved to a bigger location and named it ‘Merritt’s bakery’. After many development of the bakery, they become more than bakers. They became business owners and managers of a successful company. The division and coordination of labour evolved at Merritt’s bakery from its beginning to today. In the beginning, all the labour was divided between the owners, Larry and Bobbie. However, when the bakery expanded and grew, there was many employees and they no longer had to be in charge of everything. There were service manager, cake decorating, front store sale, etc. The span of control, centralization, and formalization have changed at Merritt’s bakery over the years. Initially, it was just them but they increased the employees over time. They increased more when the second store opened .Moreover, they felt to have managers for the employees.
