HPRS 2300 – Chapter 16: Mr. Alldredge; Chapter 11: Medication Errors and Prevention While examining Mr. Alldredge for urethritis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis , the physician was interrupted by the nurse because of an emergency at the physician’s home. He quickly wrote out Mr. Alldredge’s prescription for azithromycin and left the examination room to take the phone call. After 3 hours, the pharmacy called the physician asking about the prescription. The pharmacist said that the dosage he wrote for the azithromycin prescription was for a child, but that Mr. Alldredge was 40 years old. The physician corrected the dosage and Mr. Alldredge received the correct azithromycin dosage. NOTE: The answers to this case study, the drug azithromycin, and other questions about medication errors and how to prevent them can be found in your textbook and the following online resource: RxList (azithromycin) .
