I do value democracy and freedom, which was representative of Athenian lifebut during periods of hostilities and conflict you need fierce warriors and soldiers who arewilling to fight for freedom and peace.Sparta, was a warrior state, and had the fiercest and strongest fighting force in ancientGreece, at a young age you were taken from your family and enlisted with the military with asense of duty to serve Sparta. You learned discipline and respect, boys were turned into menand fighting machines who fought for each other, their people, and their country. Sparta valued and respected its women, they seem to have more freedom with an ability to work, own property & businesses but also educate themselves and learn. Furthemore, theycould engage in other forms of physical training/exercise that made them stronger and in some aspects more accomplished mothers v. Athenian women. Lets not forget that Athens would not have had the freedom or democracy it is famed for without the help of Sparta especially during the Persian war, and that a relatively small number of Spartan warriors (in today’s standards) repelled the Persians from Greece and stopped their advance.
