The Scarlet Letter was written by a famous author named Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hewanted to give an outlook on how women were treated during the Puritan times. In his novel heused one fierce woman forced to reckon with and overcome a tragic humiliation so she wouldnot go into a maddening depression. With the help of her fatherless daughter it brought her thestrength she needed to surpass her hidden sadness without the help of her lover.Throughout thenovel Hawthorne explicates his main point of the novel from the beginning, “The founders of anew colony, whatever Utopia of human virtue and happiness they might originally project… toallot a portion of the virgin soil as a cemetery, and another portion as the site of a prison” (55).Hawthorne right from the start explained that in every perfect world there is a place for the deadand a place for the sinners, which contradicts the fact of a Utopia.
